Police & Race Cars

Today was a day for the boys.  We started with the 150th anniversary celebration of the Polizia in the piazza out front.  The Polizia are one of several police units (I'll post more about that later) that are responsible for traffic, patrol and criminal investigations.  They had both old and new vehicles, boats, segways, golf carts, command units, and even helicopters.  All the kids had fun interacting with the police, sitting on and in several of the vehicles.  It's the first time I've seen the police so relaxed as most of the time they don't even like to have their picture taken.  After all the police fun it was race time.  The 1000 Miglia rolled right through the middle of town in the afternoon with loads of racecars from the 1920's and 1930's.  The race starts in Brescia (north of Florence), heads to Rome and then back (about 1000 miles).  It originated in 1927 by the Brescia Motor Club and today is one of the premier motor club events in the world.  Almost 400 vintage racecars from all over Europe (Alfa Romeo, Bugatti, Aston Martin, Fiat, BMW, Lancia, Ferrari, Jaguar, Mercedes, Alfa Romeo, Porsche, and many more) made there way through the center of town, which was quite the sight.  Below are a few of the cars that I captured.
