One of our days out took us across the border to Innsbruck and Hall in Tirol, Austria. While both were nice towns, the highlight of the day was climbing the Bergisel Olympic Ski Jump. Innsbruck hosted the 1964 and 1976 Winter Olympics and this ski jump stadium (capacity 28,000) was host to the Opening and Closing Ceremonies as well as the jumping competitions.
When you’re in the Alps, ski runs and jumps are everywhere.
This jump was just up the road in Garmisch, which hosted the 1936 Winter Olympics. They were to host again in 1940 until the games were cancelled due to the onset of World War II.
