With only one more day in Ireland, we worked hard to make the most of it. We started at the Cliffs of Moher with its dangling vistas about 700 feet above the Atlantic. Next it was on to The Burren, a limestone wasteland that translates to “rocky place”. Although rocks and the rock walls are everywhere in Ireland, this unique landscape is a big departure from the rolling green pastures. One of the more interesting stops in the Burren is the Poulnabrone Dolmen. This portal tomb was excavated about 25 years ago and inside they found jewels, various pottery items, and 33 bodies dating back to 4200 B.C.
Galway was the next stop and our final Irish destination. This is a great little town and just the right size for easy exploration. Our hotel was in a perfect spot downtown along the river Corrib. The kids loved the view as we watched for the seals that swam up river to hunt for salmon. We finished the day with a big Irish meal that included Fish & Chips and Guinness Pie. (And one or two more Guinness draughts of course.)
