Play Time

One thing we really liked about Vienna was its focus on kids. The tourist center here puts out a great brochure with all the activities in town dedicated to kids. It would save a lot of research if we could get that everywhere we went. With limited time in Vienna, we decided on a couple of offerings. The first was a visit to Zoom, a children’s museum located in the city center. One of the programs they offer is based around an art studio in which the kids put on overalls, get a little art lesson, and then get messy. You have to prebook your two-hour time slot, as only about a dozen kids are in the studio at once. Angie loved the whole concept and was snapping pictures, taking videos, and making notes. The other event we picked was the maze and labyrinth at Schonbrunn Palace. (Since we were already going to be there, it seemed to be a logical choice.) Originally built for the Hapsburg’s children, today it entertains everyone. We’ve done the maze thing before, and usually you’re through it in no time. This one though posed a real challenge. The kids entered it yelling, “this will be easy”. Fifteen minutes later they were a little bit more humble. When you finally get to the middle, they offer an elevated platform to help map your exit. It worked for the kids, but Angie and I still struggled while the kids yelled instructions from somewhere outside the hedge.

Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms.
