Where In The World...

Ciao Italia!

I can’t believe we’ve finished our time in Italy. Angie and I have become so familiar with this country that I think we know it better than our home states. We've traveled from the top of the Dolomites in the north to the tip of Sicily in the south. Italy has certainly felt like home and it seems like just yesterday that we arrived at our first apartment in Florence. We’re going to definitely miss all the fresh food from our neighborhood markets, being able to walk anywhere you need to go (the kids won’t miss this part), and the history that totally surrounds you at all times. We spent our last night in Rome with one more thing we'll miss; a big bowl of gelato.

So now it's on to Spain and Portugal (and Morocco and Gibraltar).  While we hate to leave Italy, we're excited to see what lies ahead. None of us have been to these countries, plus we'll be meeting up with more visitors along the way. Until then, here are a few last parting shots from Rome.
This is the Tiber River when we arrived.  It was over its banks as it is every winter.
But then after 2 days of solid rain, things took a turn for the worse. With the extremely high water, all of the tour boat docks snapped from their moorings, sending them crashing into the nearest bridge.
Bridges all over town became a collection point for boats and debris.
Castel Sant' Angelo along the flooded Tiber.
Here's the front window of the local doll repair man.
Cole and I are getting pretty good at the ins-and-outs of European soccer now, so we attended 2 games while in Rome. In the first match Lazio hosted Inter Milan, and in the second it was Roma versus Bordeaux. Both games drew a crowd of around 60,000 very loud Italians.
