Today’s outing took us to Sweethaven, the actual set from the movie
Popeye. Can you believe it’s been 28 years since it was in theatres? It was actually the first movie Robin Williams (who played Popeye) ever did. The entire set still exists, but today it’s more of an amusement park. We rented the movie the night before so the kids were all ready to check it out. During our visit we got recruited to star in a Popeye movie of our own. The kids were a bit skeptical at first, but quickly warmed up to the idea once we got under way. Shortly after filming wrapped up, everyone met at the theatre for the big premiere. Malta has always tried hard to recruit filmmakers to the island. Some of the other recent movies filmed here include Munich, U-571, Troy, Swept Away, and Gladiator.
